7 Likely Events That Might Take Place Before The 2019 General Election



The next general election will be held in the country Nigeria in the following year, precisely on the 16th of February 2019. This will be the sixth (6) democratic elections since the end of the military rule in the late 1990’s precisely in the year 1999.

It is expected that presidential primaries election are likely to be held during the last six months of 2019 in order for any party to produce a flag bearer.

In the electoral system the president of Nigeria is voted using the two round system, with the candidate needing over 50 percent of the national vote and at least 25 percent of the vote in at least two-thirds of states to be voted in the beginning round.

The three hundred and sixty members of the house of Representatives are voted using first-past-the-post voting in single member constituencies, while the other 106 members of the Senate are voted from 36 three seat constituencies based on the States and one single member constituency which is on the Federal side.

Before a general election there must at least 2 presidential candidates who will be gunning for the presidential seat. Current Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari is a candidate for re-election which simply explains he is coming out for a second term while Atiku Abubakar, the previous vice president and a candidate for the post in 2015.

These two able men are the ones who are likely going to get seat. It is the former who is currently on the seat or the latter who was the former vice president of Nigeria. There are going to be so many other changes in the states, in case of electing new governors in the state level, also in the case of changes in the local government, even in the aspect of appointing new personalities in government.

One of the biggest fears in the country during this 2019 general election is insecurity, which is affecting communities, villages in the country. Continuous instability in our communities will affect the vote and it is a certainly a big issue on the campaign trail.

Concerning the extremist called the Boko Haram  and the Fulani Herdsmen, the PDP and any other opposition parties will boldly say that the ruling party APC, has not tackled the situation well enough. In south east region, Biafra has been calling for independence. Nnamdi Kanu who has been causing trouble has been missing for several months, the group has insisted that no election will take place until a referendum on succession is called.

During a given election, things are likely to happen. It could come surprisingly to people considering the outcome of the election. There are likely events that could place before 2019 election precisely at least 7 and this will be listed below:

  • More members leaving APC

As we Nigerians prepare for the next general election, more things in testify. The present ruling party as been accused by a new formed party known as Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC). Its been reported recently that on the 5th of July 2019, few members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) decided to leave the ruling party to establish a faction known as Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC).

A well known person named Baba Galadima, a former chieftain of the ruling party, also currently known as the chairman of the new party, criticized APC of shunning out indignant members.

He also touched on the fact that the indignant members in the party had showed faith and willingness to its affairs but were rewarded with mediocrity and even disparagement. And as a result of this more of its members will continue to leave the ruling party and join other opposition parties.

  • Bukola Saraki might get hold of the PDP presidential Slot

Information coming is that Senate president Bukola Saraki is set to challenge President Buhari in the forth coming general election but firstly he has to represent his political party PDP. According to reports he is in the race for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and these reports are coming directly from his camp.

  • Either Kwankwaso or Ayo Fayose might get hold of the vice presidential Slot

According to Mr. Fayose, he has declared to the nation that is vying for the post of the presidential slot. Some believe he is going for the vice presidential slot.

This belief was inflamed the previous year by his failure to support any southwest aspirant for the seat of the national chairman.

  • More members joining PDP

As at 2015, before the last general election members of PDP dumped the party and joined APC because they knew it will be the new ruling party, As at 2019 the same members that left PDP have left APC. Members keep diverting up and there and why they left APC is that they failed people, despite being the ruling party they at risk of not retaining it come next year.
