The Kwara Government on Monday said that it would continue to support Kwara Falcons Basketball club, following the team’s excellent performance in this year’s Kwese Basketball Premier league, NIGERIA NEWS reports.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Muhideen Alalade, who made the promise when he received the trophies and medals won by the club in his office in Ilorin.
Alalade thanked the management and players of the club for the feat achieved in spite of the paucity of funds, adding that the government would not falter in its plan to develop the sport in the state.
“To win two trophies among other laurels is really commendable. It shows Kwara state is a force to reckon with in sports,” Alalade said.
He, however, assured the team that the state government was fully aware of the happenings in the club, and pledged government’s support in their future outings.
The commissioner described Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed as a visionary leader whose passion for sports development was unequaled.
On his part, Dr Joseph Adeyemo, the chairman of the club, who led the delegation to the ministry, appreciated the support of the government.
He assured that his team would continue to work hard both on the home front and at continental level to ensure the state’s government investment in sports continued to yield results.
Adeyemo, however, implored the government to help to address the problem of funds so as to start early preparation for the upcoming challenges.
Kwara were crowned the Atlantic Conference champions in Lagos for the third successive season in September before proceeding to get a continental ticket in early October in spite of losing in the final eight championship to Gombe bulls.
