According to the report received by the NIGERIA NEWS, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, the communication minister has taken the All Progressive Congress, APC, party to court on the issue of omitting his name from the list of the candidate that should participate in the governorship primary election for Oyo state that took place in the just concluded 2019 election. The party omitted his name due to that he was charged with not possessing National Youth Service Corps, NYSC certificate which implied that he did not participate in the scheme.
The case was being treated in the Federal High Court, Ibadan on Wednesday and the judgment was being adjourned until Thursday by justice P.I. Ajoku. The Communication Minister lawyer, Mr. Abdulhakeem Mustafa, SAN, seek for justice as to the elimination of Mr. Adebayo name either lawful or in any way against the constitution and make note that the Nigeria constitution connotes that anyone could be eligible to contest for any state Governor if the person possesses at least Secondary School Certificate and not NYSC certificate and so his candidate deserve justice. His lawyer presented 38 pages of the affidavit and 13 exhibits to support his view.
The defense counsel, Mr. Adebayo Ojo said in his statement below that the matter has no advantage to added to the prosecutor and so useless. Below is the following statement he made:
“My lord, the plaintiff is merely flogging a dead horse because the matter is of no benefit to him or the party, APC.
“It has become academic; the sister case he filed in Federal High Court, Abuja, has also been struck out,” Ojo stated.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), are also in the suit, the minister said according to the Nigeria 1979 Constitution, he said the NYSC certificate is not compulsory when he contested for a political post then.
