1. Amaechi commits suicide
A 42-year-old newspaper vendor, simply identified as Amaechi, has committed suicide in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased was seen dangling on rope tied to his ceiling fan in his apartment today, an indication that he allegedly hanged himself.
It was learnt that the deceased was last seen on Monday.
An eyewitness said the deceased, who is a native of Kwale community said nobody knew when he returned back to the house.
2. Election: Appeal court sacks Gombe lawmaker-elect
The Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, Plateau, has sacked Mrs Rabi Daniel, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly member-elect for Billiri East Constituency of Gombe State.
The Court further asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to present certificate of return to Mr Rambi Iyalah as the duly elected member.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Daniel was said to have lost to Iyalah during the PDP Primary, held on Oct. 4, 2018.
Iyalah was also reported to have defeated Daniel with 25 against 24 votes at the primary.
3. NAFDAC warns against consumption of FanYogo Gin, Ginger drink
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has not registered FanYogo Gin and Ginger drink in Nigeria.
Its Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, made the clarification on Thursday in Abuja.
Adeyeye said that the drink, which contained 12.5 per cent alcohol, and being circulated in the social media, was not a product of Fan Milk Plc.
“The attention of NAFDAC has been drawn to the images of Fan Milk “FanYogo Gin & Ginger” purported to contain 12.5 per cent alcohol being circulated widely to the general public via social media.
4. Nigeria election: PDP BoT speaks on party performance
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the party for the success it recorded during the just concluded general elections.
The BoT Chairman, Sen. Walid Jubrin, sent the party organ’s congratulatory message at a press conference after its 65th meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.
Jubrin said that in spite of the challenges faced by PDP candidates in the general elections, they performed well.
5. Delta guber: Court sacks APC governorship candidate
A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State capital, has sacked Great Ogboru as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the recently concluded election in the State.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba in his ruling on Thursday nullified the candidature of Ogboru.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1085/ 2018, Victor Ochei, Ogboru’s contender, had challenged the declaration of Ogboru as the governorship candidate of the party in the September 2018 primary held in the state.
6. Goods worth millions of naira destroyed in Ondo fire outbreak
Goods and property worth millions of naira were on Thursday destroyed when some shops were gutted by fire in Ondo, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government.
It was gathered that the incident occurred in Oka area of the town where automobile spare parts shops are situated.
According to an eyewitness, when the fire started in the morning, all efforts to put it out were not successful, which was said to have been caused by high voltage when electricity was restored to the area by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.
7. Muslim group reacts as WAEC, JAMB clash
The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has reacted to the clashes in the recently-released timetables of West African Examination Council, WAEC, and the Joint Admissions Matriculations Board, JAMB.
Candidates preparing to take the examinations of the country’s twin examination giants have complained bitterly about the clashes.
MURIC made this known in a press release signed by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday.
8. Tribunal grants Uche Nwosu’s request against Imo governor-elect, Ihedioha
The Election Petitions Tribunal in Imo State, on Thursday, granted the application filed by the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu, requesting for substituted service on the state’s governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha.
The tribunal also ordered substituted service on the Peoples Democratic Party.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice M.O Adewara, granted that Ihedioha and PDP be served on the wall of their buildings.
9. House of Reps summon AGF, Emefiele over N33bn pension fund
The House of Representatives, on Thursday, asked the Gov. of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, to appear before it over alleged discrepancies in the remittance of N33 billion pension deductions by the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The House also invited the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, to appear alongside Emefiele before its Ad hoc Committee to Investigate the Activities of PenCom and its administrators on Tuesday, April 9, NAN reports.
Johnson Agbonayinma (APC-Edo), the Chairman of the committee, gave the directive at a public hearing in Abuja.
