1. Atiku parading fake 2019 election results – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, fabricated the votes he claimed to have scored.

Atiku, in his petition before the presidential election tribunal, had claimed he defeated President Muhammadu Buhari by 1,615,302 votes.

He said data from INEC server showed that he polled a total of 18,356,732 votes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he said had 16,741,430 votes.

2. What Buhari said about Nigeria in Chad Republic on Saturday

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, called for the cooperation of regional leaders, in curbing the illegal flow of arms into Nigeria.

Buhari made this call while participating at the Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in Chad Republic.

The president, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, regretted the illegal flow of small arms to Nigeria.

3. Delta community petitions President Buhari, Kachikwu, Okowa over NNPC recruitment exercise

The Ekpan Development Committee, EDC, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as well as all security agencies over the recent recruitment exercise carried out by the corporation.

The EDC officials faulted the procedure used by the NNPC in the recruitment of unemployed undergraduates and other qualified Nigerians.

4. Speaker Dogara mourns Justice Nasir

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has described the death of Justice Mamman Nasir, the Galadima of Katsina and former President of the Court of Appeals, as a monumental loss.

Dogara in a statement through his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, noted that Justice Nasir was a legal icon and courageous jurist, who served the country meritoriously and contributed immensely to the development of the law and independence of the judiciary.

“He played major roles in stabiling Nigeria at various times during periods of difficulty and uncertainty.

5. ‘I fear for Nigeria’s future in 2023’ – Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed worry that Nigerians has become more divided politically ahead of the next general elections in 2023.

He made his fears known during the weekend ay the 2019 General Assembly of the Da’awah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) held at the Sultan Palace, Sokoto

He noted: “If Nigeria has these troubles in 2019 then, I have my fears over 2023. The signs are already on the ground.

6. APC vs PDP: Real reason Igbos voted for Sanwo-Olu in Lagos – Ohanaeze

Solomon Ogbonna, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter has said the reason he mobilised people of the Southeast region residing in Lagos to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in last month’s governorship election in the state was to liberate them from opposition politics.

According to him, the solution to the challenges the Igbos are facing in Lagos lay with joining the politics of the ruling party in the state as against playing the opposition role.

He stated this on Saturday in an interview with Daily Independent newspaper.

7. NASS leadership: Adamawa APC declares stand

The Adamawa Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind the candidatures of Sen. Ahmed Lawal and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the leadership of the 9th National Assembly.

Alhaji Ahmed Lawal, state Organising Secretary of the party, made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Yola.

Lawal, who said he was speaking on behalf of the party, said that the decision of the party leadership at the national level to endorse the duo was logical.

8. Champions League: Solskjaer reveals one Man Utd player that will start in Barcelona

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has confirmed Scott McTominay will start against Barcelona next week, despite dropping the emerging midfielder for Saturday’s Premier League match against West Ham.

The 22-year-old earned rave reviews for his performance during Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat.

Explaining McTominay’s absence, Solskajer told Sky Sports: “He’s a young boy and that mental and physical output on Wednesday was a lot and he’ll be needed on Tuesday.

9. Ojo Aderemi: University of Ibadan under fire for rusticating Students’ Union president over protest

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has chided the Management of University of Ibadan (UI) for rusticating Ojo Aderemi, a 300-level undergraduate of the department of History, who was president of the students’ union.

Their position was contained in a release issued by Adegboyega Otunuga, CACOL Head of Media.

It said: “Sometime within the week, the news reached us that Ojo Aderemi, a student of University of Ibadan that was elected as their union’s president on April 29, 2017 and sworn in accordingly on May8, 2017, was rusticated for four semesters after the sitting of Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC) this last Wednesday.
