Three suspects; Hanniel Patrick, 29, from Akwa Ibom, Abdulwahab Isah, 28 and Salisu Mohammed, 32 both from Kogi, already in custody of the Nigerian Police Force, were arrested in connection to the kidnapping of Abuja-based reporter of Channels Television, Mr Friday Okeregbe.
The reporter was abducted when he was on his way from his mechanic’s workshop on March 22, 2019 and released and was released 6 days after on March 28, 2019.
The suspects were arrested on April 9 by agents attached to ‘Operation Puff Adder’ according to a statement given by the NPF spokesman Frank Mba.
In his statement, the reporter wasn’t their original target, but he was taken to the abductor’s den in Karimo, Abuja and kept without any communication with anyone on the outside.
Mba also mentioned various items were retrieved from the suspects such as; a locally-made revolver gun, three live AK47 ammunition, a battle axe, handset phones and masks which were used as blindfolds.
According to the spokesman, the suspects were said to have made tangible statements to the police and efforts were already in motion the other gang members to book.
Mr Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police had raised Nigerians spirits that the police and other security agencies would do everything humanly possible to check crimes in the country in his statement.
