On Friday morning around 9.20 a.m., a female student of the oldest university in Nigeria, University of Ibadan, Miss Baliqs Olajumoke Adeniyi, had her life cut short in a fatalauto crash involving a tricycle and a waste disposal truck along leventies bus stop,along Sango-UI Road, Ibadan, Oyo state that also involved two other persons who sustained fractures in their heads and legs. The other two victims were immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the main cause of the accident was the bin disposal truck with the specification MARC LAMMERTYN that was parked along the road, which the tricycle with number plate RU 152 UP ran into.
Bamgbose Omobola, one of the eyewitnesses present at the scene of the incident said that the young lady had gone to pay her school fees.
“The lady was coming from GTB bank at Ajibade bus stop where she went to pay her school fees. Her phone and bag was recovered and this was what made it easy for us to know that she is a student.
Another eyewitness, Mr. Adelowotan Adelani appealed to the state government to regulate the activities of disposal trucks in Ibadan.
He said, “The tricycle route was from Orita Merin to Sango, this accident would not jave occurred if the waste disposal truck was not packed by the roadside.
“We are appealing to the present and the incoming government in Oyo State to stop these trucks from evacuating refuse and packing by the roadside.
“The government should bring back the waste bin we were
using before, whereby waste baskets were been put beside the road for the people to dump their refuse there.”
